Bridging Worlds: How LiveVoice played a role in facilitating an outdoor educational experience for Māori leaders on the land of their ancestors
At LiveVoice, we’re always inspired by the many ways our platform is enriching communication around the world. Recently we were privileged to be part of an educational trip with Te Akatea, a Maori leadership training in Aotearoa (New Zealand).
Te Akatea’s Huia Kaimanawa initiative emphasizes collaborating with iwi (tribes) in their unique regions, ensuring that the rich history of the whenua (land) resonates with educational leaders. Their wānanga, a time-honored tradition of learning directly on the land is considered an incredibly enriching learning experience, however it also presented a unique challenge. They needed a solution to ensure that every participant, regardless of where they sat, could clearly hear the rangatira (leaders) narrating the stories of the land.
To overcome this challenge, Te Akatea had used receiver packs and headphones, a solution that, while functional, was logistically cumbersome. As a result, they sought a more agile solution and found LiveVoice. Claire O’Fee one of the organizers, contacted LiveVoice and booked a demo call to find out whether the app can meet their needs. And after all questions were clarified, she was eager to give it a try.
“LiveVoice was incredibly simple to set up and use. The quality of the sound, even in windy conditions was excellent and we loved that the online platform automatically records everything for you. This has been useful for sound bites that we can use for continuing educational purposes in our kaupapa. Our kaumatua (valued older people of an iwi) also found it easy to use with their phones! We will definitely be utilizing the service of LiveVoice again in the future.”
The collaboration with Te Akatea is a great example that shows how tradition and modern technology can be bridged. We look forward to supporting their future wānanga and continuing to enhance communication and learning for communities worldwide.
