Hosted by Deutsche Telekom, Digital X transforms Cologne every year for two days into the center for innovation, networking, and forward-thinking ideas. Thanks to LiveVoice and AI, the event this year reached new levels of accessibility and convenience for its diverse international audience.
Digital X isn’t just a conference—it is a city-wide experience with many stages spread across iconic locations, each featuring a unique mix of topics and speakers, from guests like George Clooney to Wladimir Klitschko and Nico Rosberg.
After the first successful cooperation for guided tours and language translation last year, LiveVoice has also provided its services in 2024, this time additionally with its new AI services: AI Subtitles and AI Voice Translation.
Guided Tours: Flexible and inclusive
As such a large event can quickly get overwhelming, Deutsche Telekom provided guided tours for all visitors on a first-come-first-serve basis. More than 70 tour guides led hundreds of visitors through Cologne’s historic streets from booth to booth, communicating easily through the LiveVoice app. Without the need to distribute hardware, the guided tours were a smooth experience for both organizer and participants.
With AI Voice Translation, even international guests could easily join a guided tour on the spot.
Real Time Translation at six stages
On all six stages, from the Impact Stage at Mediapark to the Start-up Stage at Stadtgarten, attendees could easily move between sessions and listen to simultaneous interpretations using just one app. No device swapping, no complexity—simply scan the QR code at any stage, and you were ready to go.
Attendees could also listen to the original stage audio via the app. Whether they were in the room or transitioning between locations, they stayed connected to the content without missing a moment, even from afar.
AI Live Captions: Enhancing Accessibility
Another crucial part was accessibility. At both the Impact Stage and the Connected Business Stage, LiveVoice’s AI-powered Live Captions in German and English were displayed on large LED screens. This allowed attendees not only to hear the speakers but also to read their words in real time. This dual experience made the content more inclusive and easier to follow, especially for non-native speakers.
At the other stages that had smaller screens, having not enough space for subtitles, attendees could simply follow the closed captions on the LiveVoice app on their smartphones.
The Future of Event Accessibility
Digital X 2024 showcased how technology can elevate large-scale events by making them more inclusive, efficient, and engaging. With LiveVoice, Deutsche Telekom chose an innovative way for guided tours and eliminated language and accessibility barriers, setting a new standard for future conferences and city-wide events. In this way, innovation and technology were not only part of the talks, but of the actual event experience.
