EuroPerio11: four languages for 10,000 participants, after years without interpretation

EuroPerio is the world’s leading congress in periodontology and implant dentistry, held every three years. The 2025 edition took over the Wiener Messe for four days: 10,000 dental professionals from more than 100 countries, around 150 speakers, live surgeries, and sessions running in parallel across several stages.

With an audience that international, language is not a small detail. But the EFP had stopped offering interpretation years ago, for one reason: cost. Professional interpreters for a congress this size run well over €100,000. Across four parallel stages and several languages, it was out of reach, and that cost would return for every single congress.

So for years, sessions ran in a single language, and anyone who struggled with it had to manage on their own.

AI Translation changed that calculation. For EuroPerio11, the EFP used LiveVoice to add live AI translation across all four stages in Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese. Participants opened the channel they needed on their own phones, without receivers to hand out to hundreds of attendees.

Terminology was the real test. Periodontology and implant dentistry come with dense clinical vocabulary, and specialist terms are exactly where automatic translation tends to slip. The translation ran without a custom glossary and still handled the terminology well across all four days.

For the first time in years, most EuroPerio attendees could follow the program in their main language. The EFP was happy with how it ran, and so were the participants. The same budget that never stretched to interpreters covered four languages on four stages.

AI translation fit this event well. For a congress that had run in one language for years, it brought back multilingual access at a cost the budget could carry.
